Shortlist the Tefal Easy Soup BL841140 for a smaller 1.2L working capacity and a smooth-or-chunky soup routine. Shortlist the 1.6L Morphy Richards Total Control 501020 if you want a medium-texture option and sauté. Before choosing either, check your preferred soup’s permitted batch and the parts you will wash. Those practical details can change which model suits you.

Sources: Tefal BL841140 specifications and Morphy Richards 501020 specifications, with the manuals linked below. These figures do not establish a minimum batch or promise a particular number of finished bowls.
Match the portion setting to the soup you want
The Total Control manual lists Smooth for three or four portions, but Medium and Chunky for two to four. These options apply to specified recipes, not every mixture.
For Tefal, the checked instructions require the soup mixture to respect the jug’s MIN and MAX marks. They do not give a numerical soup minimum in the text. Do not infer that one small bowl is supported from the 1.2L working-capacity figure.
Measure the amount you normally serve, then check whether the exact recipe and programme support that meal. Include vegetables and liquid when assessing the load. Our minimum-fill and small-portions guide explains this buying check. If the smallest permitted recipe leaves you with soup you do not want, extra settings will not solve the mismatch.
Tefal BL841140: consider it for a repeatable soup routine
The Tefal is worth investigating when you want to choose between its two soup settings and repeat a few suitable recipes. Its manual also lists compote, blending and Easy Clean. Keep those functions separate: a cleaning cycle is not another meal programme.
Why shortlist it: its documented settings cover what you actually make. What to resolve: the minimum quantity for your intended soup, and whether you are happy to prepare any separately cooked ingredients elsewhere. A shorter control list may appeal, but it does not prove easier operation for every person.
Morphy Richards 501020: consider it for extra control over the workflow
The Total Control adds a middle texture choice alongside its sauté and reheat functions. Those are useful reasons to compare it if they fit your recipes. They are not evidence that its smooth soup is smoother or that every cooking stage takes less time.
Why shortlist it: you would use the additional settings regularly. Before buying, walk through your usual preparation steps. Extra buttons earn their place when they remove a task you currently find awkward.
If softening ingredients first is important to you, read our soup-maker sauté guide. It explains why lid position and permitted preparation belong to the exact model. Do not transfer instructions from another Morphy Richards soup maker.
Compare what you will actually wash
Neither manual treats the appliance as dishwasher-safe. Tefal prohibits immersing the appliance or placing the motor unit or jug under running water. Its Easy Clean cycle still has to be followed by the specified emptying, rinsing and any additional cleaning. See the Tefal manual, English pages 11–16.
Morphy Richards permits removal of the inner vessel for handwashing, while the lid and jug body must not be immersed. The vessel’s contacts must be carefully dried before refitting. Its Pre-Clean function is only an aid. See the Total Control manual, printed pages 8, 14 and 15.
Think about reaching the inside, handling the blade-bearing lid and finding drying space beside the sink. A removable component may suit your routine, but does not establish quicker cleanup. Our soup-maker cleaning guide helps organise the component checks.
Which one belongs on your shortlist?
Write down two soups you make often and the amount you want at one sitting. Check supported quantities first, then preparation, texture selection and washing. Compare the complete seller package, returns and replacement-part options once those essentials fit.
If neither arrangement suits your meals, our wider soup-maker buying guide compares other designs. A familiar brand or longer programme list is less useful than a cooker that fits the recipes you intend to repeat.
